2 Wood Kilns. Pizza and Chanterelles

Sarah is in Flat Rock this week for a workshop.  That's about an hour away so I drove up last night to see her.  She's staying with our friends  David Voorhees and Molly Sharp.  David is a potter and Molly is a jeweler.  I've known David for a long time and Sarah apprenticed with Molly.

Right after I arrived, David and I headed out to his friend Robert's place. Robert has a small wood kiln that was being unloaded.  It was nice to get to see the pots from the kiln and meet some new folks.

Back at David's, I got to see his new Bourry box wood car kiln.  It is first class! and even has a woodfired pizza oven between the fire box and the chamber.  David had fired up the oven earlier in the day so we all made pizzas for dinner.  They were amazing.

The pics of the chanterelle mushrooms were taken out in Molly and David's yard.  Wow, I'd never seen them before.  They had quite a few growing out there and are going to harvest them for the special occasion of Molly's birthday coming up soon.

Sarah will be home tomorrow. It's been lonely here without her.  I'll be happy to have things back to normal.  It was really great to catch up with Molly and David.  It's been a few years since we've gotten together and we must make a point to do it more often.

Not Chicken

I asked Sarah before she left work the other morning what she wanted for dinner that night.  "Something with chicken would be nice " was her reply.

So I made pepperoni pizza.

Well we didn't have any chicken in the freezer and we did have pizza dough.  So that was that and she loved it.

IMG_0665_smWe ate off of our two Kirk Lyttle plates.  I love how fun they are.  Kirk is an illustrator for the St. Paul Pioneer Press and a potter to boot.  There's not much about him on web, but I did get to meet him on one of my visits to MN and he's such a great fellow. I would love to have a few more of his pots.

Still no internet at home, but I'll keep trucking it up to the library to post and check emails.

Holiday=Rain

It rained off and on for all of the holiday weekend, heavily at times, spoiling any plans Sarah and I had to work outside.  So we got caught up on some computer work, as well as napping and a couple of good meals.  I made pizza one night, delicious as always.

We were pretty unmotivated on Sunday so decided, along with several hundred other people, to go to Ikea.  It was our first time and very overwhelming.  We got out for less than $7 and that was spent on sweets down in the cafe.

This is not a dream pizzaimg_0276I am sort of living in pottery limbo at the moment.  I really need to make some dishes.  It's only a couple weeks until my Penland class starts.  I can't wait.

Today I have a board meeting at the Arts Council and a huge stack of packages to take to the post office.  Oh, did I mention it's raining today too!  Yes.  Well I'm sorry that there have been no pottery posts over the weekend.  I promise to get back to it soon.
