I just got an order for 60 little dishes. Looks like it’s back to the wheel today. I’m thankful for the work.
I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how I’m selling and marketing my pots. Things have changed quite a bit for me over the last two years (since the switch to earthenware and more decorating). I will be posting soon about this change and how I feel about selling from my shop, working with galleries (wholesale and consignment), and doing retail craft shows. It may take a few installments. I hope this topic will prompt some discussion here in the comments. So be thinking about it and we’ll see what happens.

I look forward to the disscussion.
Meanwhile those birds are doing some talking! -
As a newbie ‘working’ potter, I’ll be interested in all of these topics. I’d like to cut way back on my day job and find a way to make pottering work as a reliable source of income.

Hi Ron – Will be interested in following this… I sell from my own gallery connected to my studio, which is in a retail setting. Been asked by another shop to display work there for a 60/40 split. But, jeez, my husband and I took a “field trip” there this weekend to check out the place. Most of their pottery is more along the lines of production pots, with little deco. I’d have to sell for twice as much to even consider it (and to match how I price in my own gallery space). The more I think about it, I don’t think it’s a good fit for me. But maybe there are other outlets I should be considering instead. Pondering for the new year…
