Today this amazing plate arrived at our house. It’s made by Steven Colby and I’ve wanted a pot of his for a while now. (I stole this image off Steven’s site because the photo I took just didn’t do it justice).
I have no idea how Steven does what he does with his surface (and believe me I’ve scrutinized his process photos on his website!). He’s really a master at layering slip and glaze and whatever else is going on there.
I get the impression that Steven puts a lot of effort into each pot and the end result certainly shows that. It’s very inspiring to me and makes me want to continue to push myself in my work.

Man, that’s sweet. I need to get my little mits on that and check it out more closely. Lucky you!

Ron, thanks for the introduction to Steven Colby and his work–great, yes! And to Ron Nagle–I did not know Ron Nagle and really enjoyed the video on Steven’s blog. There is a similarity in your work and Steven’s–a similar energy. Very nice!
